Well, the end of final exams brought the end of the first
semester of the 2005-2006 school year. Finals were, as usual, crazy
for all of the students but we made it and are ready for all the
exciting stuff our ASB has coming our way.
Well, the end of final exams brought the end of the first semester of the 2005-2006 school year. Finals were, as usual, crazy for all of the students but we made it and are ready for all the exciting stuff our ASB has coming our way.

Coming up this Saturday is our fun casual dance. It is sort of a Valentine’s dance, but the theme of “The Dance” over-ruled Valentine theme. This dance is always successful and just a cool night to get out the house and dance the night away. “The Dance” is meant to hold over our students until the junior prom in April or the senior prom in May.

This past week, to get ready for Valentine’s Day, a survey went out to all of the students that matches the results to all of the other students around Live Oak. Known as Matchmaker, students then pick up their results a couple weeks later to see who their top 20 matches are. It also matches birthdays with those at school and celebrities as well along with a horoscope, most compatible friends, and most non-compatible friends. Matchmaker is always a hit in February, and along with everybody else, I’m anxious to pick up our results.

But the big talk of this week would definitely have to be our winter homecoming. This spirit week’s dress up days include snow day, superhero day, military day, cops and robbers/cowboys and Indians day, and class spirit day. All the students have again nominated their picks for homecoming king and queen and the royal court will be announced this week with the top vote-getters being announced Friday night at the homecoming game. The royal court will also be announced during our homecoming rally during school that Friday. Lindsey Turner, our rally commissioner, has been working hard to make this a rally not to be forgotten.

Coming up in February is also the annual Live Oak Lip Scene! This is a chance for anybody at Live Oak to sign up to perform and lip sync to one of their favorite songs. The concert is Thursday, Feb. 16 at 7 in the Little Theater. It always proves to be a night full of laughter and entertainment.

League play is coming closer to it’s finale for our winter sports so come and check out the guys soccer on Wednesday the 1st, girls soccer and basketball on Thursday the 2nd, and the guys homecoming basketball game is Friday evening at 7pm. Hope to see you there!

Lorin Acker is a student at Live Oak High School.
