A second quarter barrage sank the Live Oak basketball team Thursday, losing 49-32 against Leland.

Coach Brett Paolucci said that initially the Acorns played well to open the game, but the Chargers rallied and began to widen a gap between the two teams.

“The game started OK,” Paolucci said. “They started hitting baskets and opened up an eight-point lead.”

Paolucci said that he was hoping the team would recover from the initial shock and play better in the second half.

“I was like OK, it’s the end of the first quarter, let’s try to calm down,” Paolucci said.

Unfortunately for the Acorns, they weren’t able to perform in the second quarter to recover. Live Oak scored three points while yielding 14.

“It is not that we played flat, it’s more that we shot ourselves in the foot,” Paolucci said.

“We had 10 turnovers and a lot of bad looks.”

Paolucci said the team played better for the rest of the game, but couldn’t make up for the second quarter.

“We played the rest of the game pretty even,” Paolucci said. “If it wasn’t for that second quarter.”
