Jennifer Schirle and Erik Bloomstrand were married on May 23 in a park-like setting at the Santa Cruz home of Eric Thiermann, a friend of the couple.

The ceremony took place in a picturesque wisteria covered gazebo on “Ellis Island” in the Thiermann garden. Ken Vinson, another friend, officiated as the couple exchanged vows and guests looked on from across the pond.

The bride carried a mixed bouquet of flowers brought by each guest as a blessing. A nosegay of white silk roses contributed by Jennifer’s paternal grandmother was included in the bouquet making her the fourth generation to carry the nosegay down the aisle. Her wedding ring belonged to Erik’s paternal grandmother.

Jennifer Bloomstrand, 29, is the daughter of Ken and Claranne Schirle of Morgan Hill. She was born in San Jose and grew up in San Jose and Morgan Hill. She is a seventh generation native of Santa Clara Valley. Her maternal great-grandmother, Clara Sanguinetti Gullo spent her early childhood in Paradise Valley and attended Machado school until 1906 before moving to Mountain View with her family.

Jennifer is a 1991 graduate of Live Oak High School. She earned a bachelor of science degree in biological sciences from San Jose State University. She is currently employed as a research associate at Santa Cruz Biotechnology.

Erik Bloomstrand, 35, is the son of Ralph and Helen Bloomstrand, formerly of Morgan Hill and now living in Santa Cruz. He was born in San Jose and grew up in Morgan Hill, also attending Machado School. He is a 1985 graduate of Live Oak High School. After pursuing photography at San Jose State University, Erik now works as a multimedia/video consultant.

The couple are no strangers to those who frequent downtown Morgan Hill. They met in 1994 while working as baristas at the Coffee Roasting Club.

The couple took a mini honeymoon to The Costanoa Lodge in Pescadero, and are planning a trip to the Greek Isles for their first anniversary. They are making their home in Santa Cruz.
