MORGAN HILL — Morgan Hill’s Junior Midget Raiders (2-4-1) hosted the strong Santa Cruz Seahawks on Saturday at the Outdoor Sports Center.

Santa Cruz scored first toward the end of an evenly played first quarter on a 5-yard touchdown run. The extra-point attempt was blocked by Morgan Hill’s Colby Lauback.

The Raiders forced the Seahawks to punt after their initial second-quarter drive, which was marked with some strong tackling from linebackers Jesse Osuna and Ryan Quadros. The Raiders took advantage of a wind-blown punt and marched 28 yards for a touchdown on a 5-yard run by Osuna. Joseph Amaral converted the kick to give the Raider’s an 8-6 lead.

On its next offensive play, Santa Cruz took the ball 80 yards for a touchdown to lead 14-8 at halftime.

The second half saw Morgan Hill battle back but unable to narrow the score.

Jacob Hoekstra, Dan Dunham and Dylan Pate provided defensive support against the Seahawks’ balanced attack. Morgan Hill’s offensive line continued its season of hard work with sound blocking by Noe Garcia, Joseph Burch, Tyler Miller and Lorenzo Vargas.

With the Raiders trailing by 20 points in the fourth quarter, the fans were pleasantly surprised with some creative play calling that included quarterback Brandon Sorce pitching the ball to Osuna, who than turned and fired the ball to Porras — then at tight end — for a 20-yard gain and a Raider first down.

The ball game ended with the Raiders having battled the full 48 minutes but falling short by score of 28-8. Morgan Hill hosts its final regular-season game at 4 p.m. Sunday against.
