Ruby Mae Williams died May 9, 2005, at home with her family at her bedside. She was 91.

Ruby was born on March 3, 1914, in Ardmore, Okla., to William and Rachel Collins. She moved with her family to Gilroy in 1946. Ruby enjoyed planting her vegetable garden and tending to her flowers. Her family loved her homemade apricot jam and fried pies. She had many interests, but dedicated her life to caring for her family.

Family members said they will miss her every day and will cherish her memory always.

She is survived by loving siblings Ruth Gardner of Dover, Okla., Juanita Colbert of Hayward and Jim Collins of Houston, Mo.; children Geri Mathus, Charles Butler and Leo Butler, all of Gilroy, and Jessie Hawkins of Santa Clara; grandchildren Ron Powell, Mike Powell, David Rutjes, Natalie Baker, Paul Butler, Kevin Metz, Debbie Butler and Charles Butler Jr.; great-grandchildren Anthony Rutjes, Sean Powell, Brooke Powell, Emily Powell, Brent Butler, Sherelle Butler, Amanda Baker, Justin Baker, Lindsay Baker, Chris Butler, Jacob Butler and Patrick Butler; and great-great-grandchildren Jessica Metz and Justice Rutjes.

Ruby is preceded in death by husbands Jess Butler, Dean Boyer, Salomon Brewer and Willard Williams; siblings Donnie, Onnie, Lorene, Jack, Charlie, Leona and Naomie; and grandson Steven Butler.

A celebration of Ruby’s life took place March 13, at Habing Family Funeral Home. Entombment was at Gavilan Hills Memorial Park.
