The mayor of Morgan Hill’s first official sister city, San Casciano Valdi Pesa, Italy, will visit his local counterpart over beginning this week and will even ride in the Fourth of July parade.

Mayor Pietro Roselli is expected to arrive in Morgan Hill today and tour the area through July 6. The mayor’s wife, an aide, his son and a teenage girl will complete the party.

The visit is the first formal activity since the official ceremony in San Casciano last October when the proclamation formalizing the Sister City relationship was signed by Roselli and Morgan Hill Mayor Dennis Kennedy.

Two group events are planned for Roselli’s visit. The first will be a ceremony reaffirming the relationship between Morgan Hill and San Casciano, held in the El Toro Room of the Community and Cultural Center on Wednesday, June 25, at 4 p.m. Everyone in Morgan Hill is invited to attend this event and refreshments will be served.

Roselli and his entourage will be introduced at Wednesday’s City Council meeting, beginning at 7 p.m. at City Hall.

The second event is a dinner reception for the mayor and his party to be held at Fountain Oaks, the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Chiala. Attendance at this event is limited by space and the $45 per person tickets must be purchased in advance at the Guglielmo Winery. Phone orders will be accepted at 779-2145.

During his visit, Roselli and his party will stay at various local host families who have graciously offered their homes. Daily activities are planned, hosted by members of the Morgan Hill Sister City Committee and include visits to Monterey, San Francisco and Santa Cruz.

The Rosellis’ son and his friend will remain in Morgan Hill for a period of time after the adults return to Italy, the first step in the youth exchange program that is a priority for both communities. In 2003, the Britton Middle School Jazz Band will visit and perform in San Casciano as part of its tour of Europe.
