Live Oak High School was locked down Tuesday afternoon after a domestic violence incident near the campus was reported to police.

The reported crime involved two adults who were not affiliated with the school, and neither the victim or suspect ever set foot on the campus at 1505 Main Avenue, police said.

The incident was reported about 2:50 p.m. The female victim was driving a black BMW, fleeing her husband who had threatened to hurt her, police said. A tire on the BMW blew out in front of the Live Oak campus at 1505 Main Avenue.

The woman called police to report that her husband had forced her off the road with the red Datsun 280Z he was driving. She said she was worried about being stranded on the side of the road with vehicle damage by herself.

Police responded to the domestic violence report, but Chief Bruce Cumming said they did not think the suspect had entered school property. He said it was not the police department’s decision to lock down the school, and students were not believed to be in danger.

School officials did not immediately return phone calls. It is unknown how long the school was locked down, preventing students, buses, staff and other citizens from entering or exiting the campus.

No injuries were reported in the domestic violence incident, according to police.
