I believe that the renovation of the Britton Middle School field is an absolute necessity to our community and is essential to the future of Morgan Hill Pop Warner (MHPW). Not to mention that it would benefit both Live Oak and the Britton sports programs.

My first experience with Pop Warner was when my oldest daughter joined the Midget Cheer Squad. I volunteered to be the team mom. As I watched my shy, adolescent daughter grow into a confident outgoing young lady, I realized that I wanted to be more involved. The following year I volunteered to be the head coach and my youngest daughter joined the squad. Through the years we have met so many wonderful people who we have built lifelong friendships with. My oldest daughter has learned the value of giving to back to her community and has returned to Pop Warner as a volunteer coach.

In today’s day and age, unless you started playing sports in the womb, most kids don’t stand a chance of making it through team sport try-outs. Pop Warner does not discriminate against anyone for lack of experience. Everyone is welcome to participate in the sport no matter what level of experience. In fact Pop Warner is the primary place that your Live Oak High School athletes get their experience from.

The adolescent population in Morgan Hill doesn’t have many social activities to choose from. On most Friday nights the kids choose between the movies or the Live Oak Football game. In fact because the theaters are currently under construction, I bet last Friday’s homecoming game experienced a record number of attendance. Even the middle school kids go to the games.

Given the current situation with the Live Oak Field, MHPW was forced to relocate all “home” games to Gilroy at the last minute. Not only did this cause utter chaos among the division but has a projected loss of snack shack revenue of $20,000 this season.

MHPW needs a place to call home. Not only will it prevent over usage of the Live Oak field but will benefit Britton Middle School sports as well. The field is in desperate need of renovation. It may even be a general liability to the district given the dangerous condition of the grass.

I urge you to consider the many benefits a renovated field would have on our community and hope that you will give your support.
