In just a few weeks, hundreds of millions of people worldwide—including thousands here in Morgan Hill and Gilroy—will gather to celebrate Easter. Even if you’ve never attended a church service, you’re likely familiar with Easter traditions, like egg hunts with kids.
But why do Christians place such a strong emphasis on this holiday?
Easter is the most important event for Christians because it centers on a moment that changed everything: the resurrection of Jesus. Nearly 2,000 years ago, Christians believe, Jesus rose from the dead. This isn’t just an important aspect of the faith—it’s the foundation of it. As the Apostle Paul wrote to the church in Corinth, if Jesus was not raised, then our faith is meaningless, we are without hope and are to be the most pitied of all people.
Christianity, at its core, is not just about a book, a moral code, or even a set of beliefs. It is built upon this historical event—the resurrection of Jesus.
This truth has profound implications, but one of the most powerful is the hope it brings. In the past year, I have walked alongside many families as they grieved the loss of loved ones. Some were elderly and had lived full lives; others were young, leaving behind spouses and young children.
In every case, the pain of loss was real. Yet, I have been struck by the deep sense of hope that sustained these families.
If Jesus truly rose from the dead, then death is not the end. Christians believe that because God defeated death, nothing—not even our own mortality—can separate us from Him. That hope changes everything.
If you’re looking for that kind of hope, I encourage you to visit one of the many great churches in Morgan Hill or Gilroy this Easter. You might just find what you’ve been searching for.
