Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters has begun mailing sample ballots for the Nov. 7 general election. Mailing will continue over the coming weeks. For this election, the Registrar’s Office must produce and distribute 177 variations of the ballot in five languages.

The sample ballot and voter information pamphlet contains instructions for voting and information about local candidates and measures, the voter’s assigned polling place location and an application for absentee voting.

Sample ballots will be mailed to voters who register by Monday, Oct. 10. Voters who register after Oct. 10 will receive a letter with their polling place location. The last day to register to vote in the November election is Oct. 23.

Information about statewide candidates and propositions is available in the Secretary of State’s Voter Information Guide and online at www.ss.ca.gov. Additional information about the election is available online at www.smartvoter.org and www.easyvoter.org.

Voters may request absentee ballots beginning Oct. 10. Applications are available on the back cover of the sample ballot and online at www.sccvote.org. Voters can also sign up for permanent absentee voting and automatically receive an absentee ballot every election.

The Registrar will begin mailing absentee ballots next week. Absentee voters are encouraged to complete and return their ballots as soon as possible. All absentee ballots must be received by the Registrar’s Office no later than 8pm on Election Day.
