CAN’T FIND MOVIE LISTINGS IN THE TIMES

“I am wondering why I can’t find the movie listings in the Saturday, Aug. 5 issue of the Morgan Hill Times. Why don’t you indicate what page they are on like the Mercury News does, and why are they so difficult to find?”

The Morgan Hill Times strives to keep the information on our pages consistently located, so our readers can find their favorite sections easily. The Times does list where the movie times can be found on the front page of the paper in the index at the lower left corner.

Our caller was correct in this instance. The movie times were not included in that Saturday’s issue due to the two-page feature on Scrapbooking. Sometimes, due to space considerations, a decision must be made as to what will run and what needs to be put on hold till next issue.

Normally, our readers can find the movie times in the paper each Tuesday and Saturday, and if the listing gets “bumped,” the movie times and page number line will not appear in the index.

DOG LICENSE FIASCO

“I have been trying to get a license for my dog for some time now. I started this process in June, which slowly became July, and now it’s August. Whenever I call, the answer is: ‘We’re a little behind.’ I understand people get busy, but three months is long enough to get this done.

I need to kennel my dog soon, and in order to do that, the dog needs a current license. Can you find out what the hold up is?”

Morgan Hill police Sgt. David Swing agrees with the Crimson Crusader that this caller’s concern is legitimate. Swing said Morgan Hill Animal Control Officer Daniel Pina is, indeed, behind in processing dog license requests because it’s been a busy summer season full of many animal-related issues and concerns.

Sgt. Swing assured us that her request would be handled expeditiously.

The caller told the Crusader that she submitted her dog license renewal form in May. She told us she turned it in with a $31 check in May, after her dog received a three-year rabies vaccine. She said the check hasn’t clear.

The Crusader believes the city ought to hire help to assist Pina with the backlog of dog license renewal forms he must be experiencing.

After researching the city’s dog licensing rules, we learned that no person shall maintain or board any dog four months of age or older which as not been licensed and that a license is required for an animal owned or under the control of a nonresident or kept in the city for less than 30 days. That’s why we believe for every day the city is delaying issuing this caller the license the owner of the dog should receive a discount on the price of the license fee. We believe dog licenses are crucial to the safety of the community. They help properly register the animals and prevent them from being lost since the license and tag show the name and residence of the person to whom the license is issued. The caller could also let the city’s animal control officer know that for every day of delay she should also be entitled to a discount in the dog license renewal fee after one year.
