A Farewell to Fabrics
“I just want to know if the rumor is true that Jo-Ann’s is closing and moving to Gilroy near Wal-Mart.”
Red Phone
The rumor is indeed true, as confirmed by Morgan Hill Store manager Shelly Hutfles. She told Red Phone the store will be moving to Gilroy as early as March of 2007.
Though the deal has not been finalized yet, Hutfles said she expects it will be a done deal within the next couple of months.
“It’s more than likely we’ll be opening,” Hutfles said. “We haven’t heard the official word yet. They’ve been opening so many different stores.”
The store in Morgan Hill is a traditional store, but the new location will be a super center, with seven times the current amount of space, Hutfles said.
“We’ll be able to offer framing, floral arrangements, education classes, kids camps in the new location,” said Hutfles, who has been the manager for longer than two years.
The store in Morgan Hill currently has 20 employees, but Hutfles didn’t know how many people the new store will employ.
Jo-Ann Fabrics and Crafts will be competing with Michael’s in the Garlic City.
One thing that separates the two businesses is that Jo-Ann’s carries fabrics that Michael’s doesn’t have, according to Hutfles.
