Where the sidewalk ends

“There’s a community safety issue I wanted to bring up. I’m trying to work with the city but I’m not getting any response – or at least not a good response. There’s a section of Main Street road between Grand Prix and heading west toward El Toro Elementary school and there’s no sidewalk section. Hence, all the little kids that have to walk to that elementary school are walking within arm’s length of cars going by between 40 and 50 miles a hour on Main Street – extremely dangerous. I just came across this about a month ago when my kid started kindergarten and I walking him a couple times a week to school. It scares the heck out of me and I’m an adult. Apparently, there’s a house that’s been there for years and they won’t do the fix themselves. I’m trying to get the city to acknowledge that this is a public safety issue, not giving extra access to a park or something like that. I’m just afraid that a kid will get killed or hit by a car and then they’ll do something. Pretty serious if you know what that section of road is. Kids walk to school twice a day on that section of road. Thanks, if anyone can help or has any ideas, I’m open to working with the city on this. Help is appreciated again.”

Red Phone called Morgan Hill Public Works Director Jim Ashcraft, who explained the area is part of the Phase 4 land development of Belle Estates. Final plans for the subdivision are being prepared. A sidewalk is included in the plan and should be installed some time next summer.
