Oakland – Wednesday was a banner day for the Golden State Warriors, but really the month of April was a memorable one for the team which entered this season with the longest playoff drought in the NBA.
The Warriors went 8-1 during the month with their only loss April 7 to San Antonio. Included among their victims this month were playoff teams Houston, Utah and Dallas.
In fact, the Mavericks beat every team in the NBA this season with the exception of Golden State, who went 3-0 against the team with the NBA’s best record. The teams match up in the first round of the playoffs, beginning at 6:30pm Sunday in Dallas.
No team in the league can boast the balance of the Warriors, who have five players averaging between 16 and 20 points a game. Eight players are averaging better than 9.5 points per game. Leading the way is point guard Baron Davis, who has team-leading averages of 20.1 points, 8.1 assists and 2.1 steals.
