Now that the school year has ended, I’d like to congratulate some of our local teachers who continually go above and beyond.

Maryellen Bauer is a Morgan Hill resident and first grade teacher at Antonio del Buono School in Gilroy, who attended Foothill College’s Krause Center for Innovation’s Earn While You Learn Institute (EWYL) last summer. She has recently won both the National Semiconductor Internet Institute Innovator Award and the California Media and Multimedia Festival Award for the EWYL multimedia project called Sensational Seasons that she did with her students. Last year, Kirby Wood, sixth grade teacher at El Toro School won the state Media and Multimedia Festival Award for his EWYL project.

This summer two Morgan Hill Teachers will be attending Foothill’s Krause Center for Innovation’s Earn While You Learn Institute. Jim Wright (Walsh School) and Margaret Rodriquez (Encinal School) were selected in a highly competitive application process for this prestigious three-week project-based learning supported by multimedia institute.

John McPherson, a San Jose State University Instructional Technology Masters Degree Program Intern for former EWYL participant and Encinal School fifth grade teacher, will be assisting with the institute this July.

Several local teachers will be entering the San Jose State University Instructional Master’s Degree Program Cohort that will meet at the Charter School of Morgan Hill. These teachers will spend two years earning a M.A. in instructional technology. Additionally several Morgan Hill teachers attend the Krause Center for Innovation’s LINC (Learning in New Media Classrooms Program) classes throughout the year.

Teachers seldom receive adequate recognition for the outstanding work they do with our children. We can be proud that our local teachers are among those who go above and beyond to continually improve their teaching practice as life-long learners.

Linda Ullah,

Morgan Hill
