Monica Moniz carries food to her car Wednesday with the help of daughters Kaylie, 8, and Chloie, 5, and volunteers Elizabeth Roy, far left, and Katerina Solomona at Reach Out, a food distribution center behind St. Catherine Church.

Looking for ways to get in the spirit of giving this holiday season? Swing by Reach Out, an emergency food distribution center located in a portable building in the back parking lot behind St. Catherine’s Church at 17400 Peak Ave. The volunteer-run charitable organization has been open since 1982 and serves on a monthly basis 400 needy families living in Morgan Hill, San Martin and Coyote.

“We’re hoping people kick in for the holidays,” said Coordinator Fran Hendrickson. “We’ve been getting less from the food bank than we have in previous years…donations have been down for nearly a year now.”

Non-perishable grocery items are desirable and appreciated, she said, giving examples such as canned vegetables and soup.

The food pantry at Reach Out is open from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, which is also the best time to drop off donations. Questions? Call 408-779-7442.
