What is long-term impact? This is what our Planning Commission needs to consider. This should be their mission statement. We have a “blank canvas” here in Morgan Hill. No tear-down just wide open natural spaces. Their decisions leave a mark and set a precedent for our whole community.
So why would our Planning Commission jump into a project for our “Teachers’ Housing” without a well thought out plan? I am referring to the proposed housing development on the corner of Watsonville Road and Calle Sueno.
The Planning Commission is looking to the housing development company to give them the answers. There are numerous problems developing because the focus is quantity not quality.
If we are going to be creating a new program to help keep and support our teachers here in our community, then why would the Planning Commission allow a housing complex that would be lacking of quality of life.
How are we going to keep our teacher’s with a half thought out project? This is how we reward our teachers who mold our children’s lives? And if they don’t want to live there how many service personnel are they going to pass it through until no one wants to live there? Who is going to manage and keep track of this proposed program?
I have great concern on the impact this development will have on the other residents of this small neighborhood. The images that the housing development company has shown in its presentations are distorted in their perspective in trying to make it look like the density they are proposing is the same as the current development. With their proposal of 12 units compared to the true density of six to eight units, on a less than one-acre parcel.
