Rental rates for Morgan Hill’s sports fields will nearly double for players and nonprofit groups outside city limits.
Non-residents, including out-of-town nonprofit groups, will be charged $42 per hour for using the Outdoor Sports Complex’s fields starting July 1, up from $28.
The city’s Parks and Recreation Committee will host a public workshop April 28 to discuss how resident rates for using park fields will be increased over the next 15 months.
Morgan Hill Pop Warner Football President Rich Phillips said he was generally opposed to rate increases for residents, but that he was OK with a tiered increase.
“The rate increase is not going to greatly affect my program,” Phillips said.
Recreation Director Steve Rymer recommended increasing resident rates from $4 per hour to $10 per hour, but was met with a group of dissatisfied sports enthusiasts at the March 25 Morgan Hill City Council meeting. The group complained that the rental rates were being raised too much and too fast, so on April 28, the committee and residents will discuss a phased plan to increase the rate to $10 by June 30, 2010. The city’s goal will be charge $9,000 more next year than they have this year.
Commercial rates will also be increased, from $56 to $84.
The combined rental rate increases will total $27,000 per year. The facility currently generates about $70,000 annually.
