Pride’s 12-year-old girls Green team won their first “A” division tournament championship and their third overall tournament this season June 9-10.

Solid performances against Mize Diamonds, Monterey Mad Dogs and host Salinas Storm fueled the championship victory.

On June 9, in their first game of the tourney Pride overcame five errors to beat Salinas 6-4.

With their never-say-die attitude Pride followed their game one win with a 12-0 win against the Paso Robles Young Gunz.

In their final pool-play game, and third game of the day, Pride battled to take a two-run lead against the Mize Diamonds only to drop the game 6-9.

On Sunday Katie Mains led the Pride to an 8-2 win over the Diamonds in the semifinal game throwing a two-hitter.

With a 3-1 tournament record, Pride displayed their skill and sent 10 batters to the plate in the first inning of the championship game against the Monterey Mad Dogs. Pride’s Katie Obbema was superb from the mound tossing a one-hitter in their 11-1 taming of the Dogs to secure the championship. The Pride will be playing in the United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA) Nationals July 23-29 in Independence, Miss.

Head coach Gene Ciraulo is proud of his teams growth and performance.

“It has been a great experience watching the girls grow in their skills and knowledge of the game. Helping them achieve a nationals experience has been our team goal since they were 10, and I look forward to watching them display their abilities at the World Series,” Ciraulo said.
