The Pride 10U Green team walked away proud this past Fourth of July weekend, capturing second place in the Global Sports Firecracker Bonanza at Twin Creeks in Sunnyvale.

The team’s record was 4-2-0 in six tourney games, including four back-to-back games on Sunday. Coaches Brian Woodson and Carmen Santoya were elated with the girls’ performance, as this was only their second tourney of the season.

Following are the tourney results:

PRIDE 4, Los Gatos Magic

Defense was the key in this win, as pitcher Lisa Woodson retired the first three batters in the first.

Jennae Cambra walked, stole third and came in to score on a huge RBI single by Woodson.

Catcher Lacey Hice was strong behind the plate, and also had an RBI single.

Several players walked in to score making it 4-0 Pride.

Brianna Anglikowski had an outstanding catch in right field and Woodson continued strong on the mound for a total of 14 strikeouts.

Livermore Smoke 4, PRIDE 0

The score didn’t reflect how well the Pride played in the second game.

Alyssa Santoya, after missing 10 weeks with a broken arm, was on target with four stikeouts. She also teamed several times with Allison Stoner at first for many put-outs.

With the bases loaded, Cambra covered first from her second base position on a bunt for the out then drilled it to Alexis Bejarano at third who put the tag on a steal for a huge double play.

The Pride’s bats finally came alive in the third and fourth innings with Bejarano’s double, and singles by Woodson and Pricilla Orona. Unfortunately, the Pride couldn’t capitalize to score in time.

PRIDE 17, Almaden Quicksilver 1

It was the Pride’s time to put the bat on the ball on Sunday. Most of the team’s runs came in the third and fourth innings thanks to run-scoring triples by Santoya and Stoner.

Woodson and Santoya kept the rallies going with doubles, and Bejarano, Cambra, Hice, Doting, Orona and Anglikowski had strong RBI singles.

Again, pitcher Woodson was on her game with 11 strikeouts. And, Doting teamed with Stoner at first for some amazing outs. As a result of the win, the Pride was seeded third and ended up facing the Quicksilver again.

PRIDE 7, Quicksilver 0

Santoya and Woodson were unstoppable on the mound, combining for the shutout with a total of nine strikeouts. Anglikowski and Mendez made incredible outs in the outfield. Centerfielder Doting showed her speed when a Quicksilver player bombed one over her head by turning a potential home run into an out at third base.

The Pride bats were on fire with Woodson and Santoya tripling, and Hice, Stoner, Cambra, Orona, Bejarano and Anglikowski singling. The Pride advanced to the semifinals with the victory.

PRIDE 2, Smoke 1

Facing a tough Smoke team again, this time the Pride came out on top.

Woodson gave the Smoke nothing but strikes, with 18 stike outs, and was able to knock in Cambra for an RBI that put Pride on the board in the first inning.

Infielders Doting and Stoner were at it again for several outs at first.

The Smoke almost scored in the third with the bases loaded but Woodson shut them down. Stoner caught a hard-hit line drive in the fourth to prevent another scoring opportunity.

Finally, in the seventh inning, the Pride was able to break a 1-1 tie with Woodson launching a triple and pinchrunner Doting scoring on Hice’s key RBI single to win the game.

The win advanced the Pride to the tourney’s championship game.

Palo Alto Dynamite 8, PRIDE 0

In the Pride’s fourth consecutive game of the day, the Dynamite had a bit more energy to get runs.

Defensively, Santoya and Woodson were able to combine for seven strikeouts. And, Cambra and Doting teamed with Stoner for several outs at first with runners in scoring position. But the Pride’s offense had run out of steam.
