The Live Oak girls basketball are 2-1 on the young season after a 53-44 win over North Monterey County on Friday.
The Acorns used an 18-point first quarter to jump out to a 10-point lead and never looked back.
Live Oak held a 34-20 lead at the half and cruised through the third quarter to the win.
The Acorns will have most of the week off before hosting Sobrato 7 p.m. Friday for the first of back-to-back home games.
Gonzales 50, Live Oak 49
The Live Oak boys basketball team played its closest game of the season, going down to the wire against Gonzales.
The Acorns, however, couldn’t pull out a fourth-quarter win to fall 50-49 and drop to 0-3 on the season.
Josh Carvalho led the team with 12 points as the Acorns battled with Gonzales the entire way.
Live Oak took a two-point first quarter lead that it gave up by the break, heading into the locker room tied 22-22.
The second half went much of the way of the first, with both sides putting up 11 points in the third quarter.
Gonzales, however, was able to edge out Live Oak in the fourth, putting up 17 points for the single point victory.
The Acorns are home tonight at 7 to host Andrew Hill. They will remain at home on Thursday to take on Yerba Buena 7 p.m. in the Acorn gym.
