Sobrato was forced to put its celebration on hold, as Del Mar staged a fourth-quarter comeback to deny the girls basketball team a shot at the outright West Valley title.
The Dons outscored Sobrato 20-4 in the final frame to pull out a 39-34 win over the division frontrunner.
With Lincoln easily getting by Overfelt, Sobrato is forced to wait until the final game of the season for a chance at winning the title outright. The Bulldogs hold the tiebreaker against Lincoln, but they still want to claim the title for themselves.
Tuesday night started well for Sobrato, jumping out to a 16-4 lead.
But the Bulldogs stumbled in the fourth quarter, being outscored 10-3, but regained ground in the third with an 11-5 run.
With the title in hand and a 30-19 lead going into the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs ran into problems.
Point guard Vanessa Gonzalez and two guard Megan Yabumoto fouled out and post player Hazel Hill had four fouls.
Gonzalez left the game with a team-leading 10 points. Yabumoto had eight and Hill had six. Tauheedah Id-Deen also had six points with a team-leading seven rebounds.
Sobrato will close out the regular season 7 p.m. Thursday against James Lick. The Bulldogs should qualify for next week’s BVAL Tournament and will then learn its CCS seed.
Girls Soccer: Live Oak downs Willow Glen, 3-1
Alissa Pham made her return from injury count as the Live Oak girls soccer team downed Willow Glen 3-1 Tuesday.
Pham scored a goal in her first game back since injuring her ankle against Leland.
Shannon Rauschnot had a goal and an assist and Karlie Juarez scored a goal as the Acorns breezed by the Rams.
Live Oak went up 1-0 in the first half, then scored twice more in the second despite yielding a goal.
The Acorns will next host Branham 3:15 p.m. Thursday.
