Live Oak fell to 0-2 in nonleague play.

Another league foe, another big win for SHS boys hoops
MORGAN HILL — Can any team in the Santa Teresa Division stop Sobrato? We are two games from receiving a credible answer.

After they turned Wednesday’s anticipated showdown with second-place Del Mar into another lopsided league win for Sobrato, this one by 56-37 score, the Bulldogs (10-5 overall, 5-0) set course for the remaining two conference foes they have not faced.

Friday, they visit Gunderson (4-12, 1-4) at 7 p.m. Tuesday, they host Hill (2-11, 0-4), which is winless against the same Santa Teresa teams that Sobrato outscored by an average of 16.5 points. Give credit to the Evergreen Valley Cougars; Sobrato only beat them by eight.

If the Bulldogs’ biggest opponent is complacency, consider them in great shape. After clinging to a 27-22 halftime lead Wednesday in Sobrato Main Gym, the Bulldogs supressed any chance of an upset by Del Mar (9-6, 3-2) in the third quarter, outscoring the Dons 13-4.

Sobrato senior Ryan Williams delivered another solid night with seven rebounds and 14 points, including three 3-pointers, Travis Saenz chipped in nine points, and Pierre Hemphill had eight plus eight assists and five steals.

LO wins again at home

Defending their home court successfully for the fifth time in seven tries this season, the Live Oak Acorns beat Prospect 58-47 Wednesday behind double-digit scoring efforts from four players.

Five days after totaling 20 points and 12 rebounds in a win over Yerba Buena, senior center Dominic Leach finished with 23 and seven to lead the Acorns (6-9 overall, 3-2 West Valley Division), winners in three of their last four. Cody Gallizioli and Nathan Seifert added 12 points apiece, with Gallizioli adding a half dozen rebounds, and Michael Schreiber scored 11.

Prospect fell to 3-12 and 1-4.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Acorns fall at home to W.G.

The Willow Glen Rams capitalized off Live Oak’s small roster to cruise to their first conference victory Tuesday.

The short-staffed Lady Acorns, limited in reserves and now down to three regular starters after Fa Saulala rolled her ankle last Thursday, were handcuffed offensively during a 52-30 West Valley loss in Live Oak Gym.

The Acorns (3-10 overall, 1-4 league) were trying to win back-to-back games for the first time since January 2008.

The Rams (2-12, 1-4) ended that bid quickly, racing out to a 23-12 halftime lead. They received 12 points from freshman Katy Drennan and 10 from Mariam Ghanbari.

Live Oak senior Jacey Turay led her team in scoring for the third time in four games. The 5-foot-11 senior made two from beyond the arc on the way to a dozen points. Junior point guard Meghan Perez added 10.

Prospect pulls away from SHS

The host Panthers scored 24 points in the second quarter on the way to beating Sobrato 56-26 in Mount Hamilton Division play Tuesday, handing the Lady Bulldogs their 10th consecutive loss.

Freshman Alyssa Firato had a team-high eight points on 4-for-8 shooting, and Jessica Westall contributed seven points for Sobrato (3-12, 0-5).

Audrina Sablan scored 14 points to lead Prospect (8-7, 3-2).
