Local firefighters helped Poppy’s raise money for the Burn

Mike Castelan’s days as a firefighter were not the only motivation behind he and wife, Jana, reaching out to the community to raised money for burn victims.

The Castelans raised $1,000 for the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation during a special event at their downtown business, Poppy’s Fish, Poultry & More, on Saturday, Sept. 23.

Mike said he knew people would be downtown that day because of the city’s Taste of Morgan Hill festival, and he decided it would be a good time to bring in firefighters and an engine to raise funds for the foundation and raise awareness about the plight of burn victims and their families.

The foundation sends young burn victims to “Champ Camp” each summer and also provides different levels of survivor services, as well as prevention education.
