Morgan Hill – In Bronco division Pony baseball playoffs the Yankees defeated the Angels 8-4 on Monday.
In first inning action Angels’ Joseph Rodriguez doubles, steals third and scores on an overthrow by the catcher.
The Yankees answer back in the bottom of the inning as Jason Struzik reaches on an error, advances on a ground out, and then scores on Auston Rutledge’s single.
The Angels would score a run per inning in the second and third, and then two runs in the fourth inning as Manny Lua walks, steals second base, and scores when Tommy Naranjoo reaches on an error. Narajo takes steals second and third with speedy base running, and scores on a wild pitch bringing the Angles lead to 5-1.
The Yankees would post a run per inning in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to come within a run of the Angels, but the Angles would extend their lead to 6-4 in the top of the seventh when Naranjo triples and then scores on a passed ball.
With a two run deficit and two outs the Yankees rallied in the bottom of the seventh to win the game. Nathaniel Batad singles, steals second, and scores on a Struzik double bringing the Angles lead to one run. Jesse Lares then walks advancing Struzik to second base, and then Rutledge hits a three run walk off home run to win the game for the Yankees.
A’s 5, Dodgers 3
Strong defensive performances from both teams kept the game scoreless through the first inning on Tuesday, but the Dodgers notched a 1-0 lead in the second when Aaron Armijo reached on a two-out single, stole second and third bases, and then scored on a pick off attempt to second base.
After giving up two walks in the top of the third inning A’s pitcher Andrew Bueno shut down the Dodgers with three strikeouts. The A’s scored four runs in the bottom of the inning on a one-out double by Zack McKerrow, a double into right field by Nelson Pyle, a two-run inside-the-park home run into deep right field from Casey Dawes, a double by Westyn Herscovitch, and a single by Lorenzo Aguayo to score Herscovitch.
The stellar pitching from the A’s’ Bueno and the Dodgers’ Armijo, backed by solid defensive plays from both teams kept the game at 4-1 through the fourth inning.
In the top of the fifth inning after an initial strikeout by A’s pitcher Bueno, the Dodgers’ Dane Cleeton reached on a single. Two walks loaded the bases and a single by Ben Hartl scored Cleeton keeping the bases loaded. A strikeout from A’s reliever Nelson Pyle however ended the scoring threat.
The A’s got the run back in the bottom of the inning when Bueno reached on an error, took second base on a balk, third base on a passed ball, and scored on a sacrifice from Herscovitch.
In the sixth inning the A’s dropped the Dodgers in order capped by two strikeouts from pitcher Pyle. But the Dodgers kept the A’s from stretching their lead by dropping the A’s in order on an infield fly and two strikeouts from Armijo.
The Dodgers would rally another run in the top of the seventh inning, but could not catch the A’s. With a lead off single, Armijo advanced to second on a single by Cleeton, and then stole third and scored on a hit by Alex Aguaristi. A’s shortstop Bueno fielded Aguaristi’s hit and relayed to second baseman Matt Jarvis for the force out at second. Then center fielder Pyle made a spectacular sliding catch for the second out, and a strikeout by reliever Aguayo sealed the win for the A’s.
