Three students arrested at Sobrato on drug charges
Morgan Hill – Police officers were busy before school recessed for the holiday break with an alleged gang incident at Live Oak High School and narcotic activity at Sobrato High School.
According to Morgan Hill police Cmdr. David Swing, a 15-year-old male student was booked into Juvenile Hall in December after he was charged with alleged possession of a deadly weapon. The teen, who was on probation, admitted he was a Norteño gang member, Swing said. He was wearing a red belt with the number “14” on the belt buckle.
The student was allegedly on campus to fight with a “scrap,” or Sureño, Swing said, “but school officials got wind of his intentions and intervened before there was a fight.”
When the teen was searched, officers found a roll of pennies that they believe he was going to use in the fight.
The incident may have been related to an earlier fight between an alleged Norteño and Sureño on the campus and an assault last week, but Swing said he could not make that connection at this point.
“There has been increased gang tension at Live Oak this year, but right now, we can’t say necessarily that these incidents are related,” he said.
On the Sobrato High campus in December, three students were arrested on charges of alleged possession of marijuana. A 14-year-old Morgan Hill female, a 14-year-old San Jose male and a 15-year-old Morgan Hill male were taken into custody after teachers became suspicious that there might be some narcotic activity going on. Their lockers were searched, and officers found a small amount of marijuana and two stolen iPods. Swing said two of the teens were released to the custody of their parents, and one was booked into Juvenile Hall.
