Morgan Hill residents will experience no disruption in service as the Police Department begins the move to its new facility today.

The move, from the department’s current location at 17605 Monterey Road to the new John R. Moreno Police Facility at 16200 Vineyard Boulevard, is expected to be completed by June 14.

“We want to let the public know that there will be no loss in service to the public during this time,” MHPD Lt. Joe Sampson said Monday. “We will be responding as usual to all routine and emergency calls.”

The only service that will be unavailable is routine business conducted during normal business hours, but only on Thursday and Friday, June 10 and 11. MHPD is asking the community to hold all routine business normally conducted at the Monterey Road location until June 14.

The front lobby at the downtown facility will be closed to the public for routine business those two days. The department e-mail and computer network systems will be in transition during this time. E-mails sent on these days will not be checked until after June 14.

During the move, MHPD dispatchers are working out of the County Communications Facility in San Jose. The 408-779-2101 police business line number will remain operative during the move. All 911 calls will be answered by MHPD dispatchers from County Communications in San Jose. Administrative phone lines, the watch commanders’ office and administrative voice mail will remain active throughout the transition process.

“The shift to the new location should be virtually unnoticed by the community in terms of service, unless someone tries to go take care of something at the Monterey Road location on Thursday or Friday,” Sampson said.

The official opening of the new facility will be June 26. Sampson said more information about the event will be released soon.

Total project costs will be $9.45 million. Besides purchase and tenant improvement costs of $1,699,000, the city paid $400,000 for professional services and $837,000 for furniture, equipment and other costs.

The new facility is located in an indutrial park in the southeast part of town, near the Tennant Station shopping center.
