Cooler weather and a Saturday date is expected to draw many Morgan Hill residents to the Community Center Amphitheater Saturday morning for the city’s third commemoration of Sept. 11, 2001.
Officially called Patriot Day, the 10am ceremony will offer flags, bells, bagpipes, doves, Girl Scouts and speakers (brief) from police, fire and forestry agencies plus the mayor and Chamber of Commerce director. Uniformed officers from police and fire agencies line up formally and impressively to honor their fallen comrades.
The event is sponsored by the city and the Chamber of Commerce and was largely planned by Lisa Lewis of the City Clerk’s office. Barrels to collect games, paperback books, toiletries and other items useful to troops serving in Iraq will be available and residents are encouraged to bring something along. See the editorial on page A4.
