Dear Editor,

As a parent of a student at Sobrato High School who plays football I have to tell you that we are very happy with our team. My son played for Live Oak and for Sobrato. We were much happier with Sobrato. The boys were taught not only great football but they were taught to play as a team. There was camaraderie among the boys and they enjoyed being together. The coaches at Sobrato taught the boys by encouraging them and they did not allow the teammates to put each other down.

At practices when the team would run, there were a couple of boys who were slower then the rest of the team, and the boys who were already done running would come back and get behind the other boys and run with them encouraging them to not give up. This was not prompted by the coach but by the boys themselves.

Also, the concern that we are trying to stack our team is wrong. We withdrew from the league and if we were trying to stack the team why would we withdraw and then not be eligible for CCS or championships?

The Live Oak and Gilroy teams are upset that we withdrew because they need to reschedule a game. Our coach is rescheduling numerous games so that our boys can play, and they are not all going to be close to home. And as for a friendly rivalry across town how can we expect our children to have a friendly rivalry when parents can’t?

Our coaches from the friendly rivalry school never have anything nice to say about our school and when it came to sharing fields prior to school starting they didn’t want the “Sobrato kids” on their fields or in their gyms.

I am very happy with Sobrato, their staff and the athletics. They have been very supportive to the students and the families. It has never been a problem to get a response from teachers, coaches or the principal. I thank God everyday for Sobrato, because my son enjoys going to school now.
