The Morgan Hill Police Department enjoyed a rare occurrence

Morgan Hill Police Sgt. Shane Palsgrove, a law enforcement veteran who has been decorated with numerous accolades in his career, was appointed to the position of captain of the local department.
Police Chief David Swing appointed Palsgrove to the captain’s post, which has been vacant for more than a year, due to his demonstrated “drive and determination that has helped him achieve his goals,” Swing said in a press release Friday.
“Shane and I have worked together throughout our careers and his leadership skills have always impressed me,” Swing said. “It was my pleasure to be one of his field training officers and my honor to appoint him to this new position. I am fully confident in his abilities and his dedication to the community and profession.”
Palsgrove will officially take over leadership of the department’s special operations division on Oct. 14.
As an administrative sergeant, Palsgrove recently helped secure grant funding for regional gang intervention, implemented the department’s predictive policing analytics program and oversaw personnel and training functions, Swing added.
The new captain’s previous experience and education includes patrol, investigations, SWAT team and field training. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in law enforcement areas from San Jose State University, Swing said.
Palsgrove is also a 2005 graduate of the Leadership Morgan Hill program and a 2011 graduate of the Supervisory Leadership Institute.
He is also active in the community as a board member of the Morgan Hill Youth Sports Alliance, Swing said.
Furthermore, Palsgrove was the city’s Employee of the Year in 2005, was awarded the Medal of Bravery in 266, the Blue and Gold Award in 2003 and 2005, the Outstanding Performance Award in 2010, and High Performer in 2011, Swing said.
