What I don’t think Mr. Crocker knows is how much he will be

EDITOR:

Mike Crocker, the principal of Jackson School, retired this year. He was given a quiet retirement party and the few parents who knew he was leaving wished him well. What I don’t think Mr. Crocker knows is how much he will be missed by the families of Jackson Elementary School.

My daughter started kindergarten the year Mr. Crocker came to Jackson. One of my first impressions of the school was that of a principal standing out in the parking lot, greeting both kids and parents with a smile and a friendly remark. He made it a point to become familiar with all his students and their parents. He lent himself, his sense of humor, and dedication to all our activities.

We will miss the colorful costumes he wore as he led our Halloween parade, his green foot at story-telling time on St. Patrick’s Day, and the special way he recited ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas’ for our primary students. He was instrumental in having our school recognized as distinguished, and a school of excellence. He dealt with problems in a empathetic and positive manner.

The principal’s job is not an easy one. Mr. Crocker dealt with a number of difficult issues this year and did it with grace and integrity. I would like to say publicly, on behalf of myself and many of the people whose lives you touched. Thank you for your service.
