Outreach, a nonprofit organization that connects disabled or disadvantaged individuals in Santa Clara County with the services they need to gain independence and dignity, is celebrating 25 years of service this month.
Incorporated on April 30, 1979, Outreach was founded by a group of social service professionals working to provide disadvantaged elderly individuals in low-income communities with face-to-face assistance that would enable them to remain independent.
The organization has since expanded its services to assist low-income families, children, and disabled. Outreach now offers a Paratransit program, transportation for the disabled of all ages who cannot use public transportation; a Guaranteed Ride Program, transportation for welfare participants engaged in employment-related activities; and a Give Kids a LIFT program, free after-school transportation for low-income children to supervised locations.
Over the past 25 years, it has provided approximately 9 million rides to frail elderly, disabled, and disadvantaged persons and families. Outreach also offers a Money Management program, a counsel service to assist low-income, disabled or homeless individuals budget their funds.
Today Outreach operates one of the most technologically advanced transportation systems for serving disabled persons in the country. Over the past 25 years, Outreach has been honored with numerous awards for its successful programs. The Give Kids a LIFT and GRP have both recently received the MTC’s Award of Merit. In 2003, The California Alliance for Advanced Transportation presented Outreach with The Best Return on Investment for Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Award.
Outreach, a United Way Agency, was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1979 that forges links between people needing services and those who can help by providing transportation, social services, and financial services. Outreach enables thousands of elderly, disabled of all ages, low-income persons, and families in Santa Clara County to benefit from vital services supporting their health, well being, and independence.
