Opportunity knocks with the potential of a downtown library. Are we prepared to listen and answer the call?
Only a small percentage of the community, those who want to keep the library close to their homes, are holding the door closed against such an opportunity. Though a majority of the council has expressed support for the downtown location, threats and innuendo from this minority may sway the outcome. The city fathers should act in the best interests of the whole community, and they should act now. They will not again in their tenure have such an opportunity.
We must stand and be counted. We must all show our resolve and not let a few loud and aggressive supporters of the present location shout down the common-sense value and community benefit inherent in a downtown library location.
This letter asks that you voice your support for a downtown location, and support for the council members who take a stand for a downtown location. You might possibly say sometime down the road that you had a hand in the location of the library and that you proudly didn’t let that opportunity pass.
I’ll be at the City Council meeting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 21, lending my support. Hope to see you there.
