Caltrain – Hard-fought improvements on-track for South County

"This train is bound for ... Gilroy."

Was Charter fradulent in offering services it really could not provide?

Today, the Internet dominates how we conduct business, communicate, and share information. I don't believe that 10 years ago anyone could have foreseen its impact. We access it with desk tops, laptops and wireless hand held devices. Crucial to this access is the Internet provider (IP). Two of the main providers in Morgan Hill are Verizon and Charter. One provides access via your phone lines (DSL) the other through television co-axel cable. Both advertise options and programs which center on bandwidth. Bandwidth is often described as megabits per second (MB/sec). Verizon has plans up to 3.0 MB/sec., locally, and Charter has up to 10 MB/sec. Bandwidth is important to the user as the higher bandwidth gives you faster access to Web sites, downloads and uploads. Residents have the option of installing a modem and a router so that family members can access the Internet from their own personal computer or device. Some of these connections are hardwired or connected via a wireless home network. Wireless at the moment is slower.

Residents have earned speedy and comprehensive perchlorate cleanup order

On Dec. 7, the years-long South County perchlorate water poisoning story will take another important turn when the Central Coast Regional Water Quality Control Board will consider whether to adopt the Draft Cleanup and Abatement Order (CAO) or instruct staff to make more adjustments. The CAO is a key document because it spells out in detail what Olin Corp. will be required to do to clean up the contaminated groundwater.

Don’t forget to say thank you

Paying repsect to our veterans with Marines’ Hymn

Veterans Day is Nov. 11. However, on Nov. 10, the United States Marine Corps celebrated its 232nd birthday, and since I served as a Marine machine gunner in the Korean War, and became a Marine Corps staff sergeant, and later authored the book, "We Claim the Title, Korean War Marines," please let me present my research from the Internet regarding praising the services.

Teens benefit from the Internet

Today's Internet is probably the most amazing technological phenomenon that has benefited our generation, the teenagers of the world. Even though people of all ages use the Internet, it is we, the teens, who have grown up with it.

Who are Today’s Teens?

I have noticed that people who believe in stereotypes typically don't have contact with the stereotyped group. Stereotypes might have evolved from incidents or anecdotes, which have tried to describe a certain group; however, stereotypes certainly don't tell the whole story.

City Police Dispatch Service Cost Analysis is Flawed

At a recent council meeting, a council subcommittee submitted a report that determined that it was not economically feasible or justifiable to contract for police dispatch services. The analysis was a simple comparison of the salary of one Morgan Hill dispatcher compared with the salary of a County of Santa Clara's dispatcher. They are almost the same. However, the study did not consider other costs, and efficiencies and is significantly flawed for the purpose of determining if a cost savings could be achieved should the city decide to contract for dispatch services.

Passing Huge Debt to Our Kids for Mismanaged Water Projects

Mr. Robert Cerruti's July 3 letter to the editor criticized the Santa Clara Valley Water District in handling the debt payoff for the San Luis Reservoir project. It brought water to Santa Clara County in 1987 and supplies the three Llagas sub-basin percolation ponds in Morgan Hill. Cerruti wrote the project was built at a cost of $247.8 million and we now owe an additional $80 million on top of the original capital cost. He spoke about money the water district set aside for repayment and wanted to know where the money went. Specifically, he argued that annual payments should have been made starting in 1987 to pay down the capital cost and the interest.
