Raymond Valadez December 30, 1933 – November 16, 2013

James W. Jones

James W. Jones, born May 24, 1921 and long time resident of San Martin (Gilroy Area) passed away March 4, 2009. He was 87 years old. Mr. Jones was a decorated WWII veteran and an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and being a cowboy. He had his pilot's license and loved flying his own plane. He was an agricultural inspector for both Santa Barbara and Santa Clara Counties. He leaves behind his beloved wife Natalie and daughter Kelly as well as his step-children Clay, Carla, and David; along with six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, his sister Alice and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 14th at San Martin Presbyterian Church (13200 Lincoln Ave.) at 3:00 P.M.

Baltazar Haro Sr.

Passed away at home after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of the late Guadalupe Haro, father of Maria Gaeta, Trini Franco, Anita Armas, Toni Ferreira, Baltazar Haro Jr., Sara Avila, Pascual Haro, Jorge Haro, Ralph Haro and the late Francisco Haro and Ramiro Haro. He was a grandfather of 35, great-grandfather of 37. and great-great-grandfather of two. He was brother of Ruben Haro, Nicolas Haro, Guadalupe Haro, Salvador Haro, Ninfa Loera and the late Refugio Haro, Enedina Carrillo and Consuelo Ayon. Baltazar is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Born in San Martin de Bolanos, Jalisco, MX, he moved to Gilroy in 1968.

Salvatore (Sal) J. Masoni

Salvatore "Sal" Masoni, local farmer and life-long Gilroy resident entered into eternal rest on August 19, 2011, after a lengthy illness.

Thomas F. Young

Thomas F. Young, 92, long-time Salinas resident went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, July 7, 2011. He was born on February 26, 1919, in Gilroy, CA; the youngest son of Fook Lee Young and Lee Suey Young, pioneer farmers in the Santa Clara Valley, who settled in the Gilroy area in the late 1800's.

Bill died of heart failure, peacefully in his sleep, at his home in Gresham, OR.

Joanne C. Rossi

Born June 4th, 1932 to Ann and Gordon Chappell, Joanne was the youngest of three children. She met and married her beloved husband Ray Rossi (deceased) and spent many happy years raising their three children, here in Gilroy. Joanne is survived by her sons Paul, Alan (and wife Kimberlee and their two children David and Sarah), and daughter Elaine Postigo (and husband Richard and their two children, Justin and Tara), her brother Robert Chappell and sister in-law, Rene (and nephew Marty and his family).

Eleanor C. Johnston

Eleanor C. Johnston, passed away at Mabie Skilled Nursing Center Saturday, Sept. 8, 2007, at the age of 94 years. Eleanor was a native of Merced, CA, a graduate of Merced High School and moved to San Benito County 60 years ago. As a child, Eleanor benefited from the qualities of a very close knit family and she exemplified those qualities of hard work, trust, sharing, and helping others during her life as she raised her own family, worked along side her late husband Harvey K. Johnston on their walnut ranch, and within the community and fraternal organizations she belonged to. Eleanor was a member of the Old Mission San Juan Bautista Parish: she worked 40 plus years in their office and gift shop and taught CCD classes. Her memberships also included Native Daughters of the Golden West Parlor No. 179 of San Juan Bautista; Yosemite Institute No. 117, Y.L.I.; the Catholic Daughters; and the Legion of Mary. "Among her talents was her ability to prepare fabulous meals, her interest in music–as an accomplished pianist and singer; and growing beautiful flowers and wonderful vegetables in her garden", said her daughters, Cece and Sharon Johnston of Hollister. Eleanor was the last of six siblings of her family and is survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Joseph G. Rose November 18, 1919 – August 2, 2012

Joseph G. Rose passed away at Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital at the age of 92 years. A native and lifelong resident of Hollister, Joseph attended local schools, served with the U.S. Army in Central Europe and Northern France Theatre, and was employed by Ferry Morse Seed Company for 40 years. He was a member of the Elk’s Lodge and Loyal Order Of Moose.
