A passenger van caught on fire due to equipment failure Friday afternoon, causing about $5,000 worth of damage, authorities said.

The Santa Clara County Fire Department responded to the fire, in which a Ford E350 Super Duty van caught ablaze, about 1:52 p.m. Friday at Joleen Way and East Dunne Avenue. A spokeswoman from the fire department said the fire appeared to have started in the van’s engine compartment, then spread into the passenger compartment.

The driver of the van pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road after seeing smoke coming from under the hood, authorities said. A single passenger was the only other occupant. No injuries were reported.
