Lady Bulldogs dominate Santa Teresa selections; Barats, Read
earn Mount Hamilton boys honors
MORGAN HILL — To the victor went the all-league spoils in Santa Teresa Division girls water polo.

Sobrato coach Dave Letts, who helped guide the Lady Bulldogs to their first conference championship this fall, and the team’s starting seven players have been named to the league’s awards list.

Letts joined Willow Glen’s Robbie Boronda as Santa Teresa Coaches of the Year, and Sobrato 2-meter Melanie Jasper was honored as MVP. Teammate Eve Okamura, also a 2-meter, was Sophomore of the Year. Utility player Nika Burnett and 2-meter/driver Devin Koehler, both juniors, made the first-team all-league list, as did sophomore driver Miranda Herrington.

Jacqueline Whistler, a junior driver, and sophomore Erika Svensson were Sobrato’s second-team honorees.

Jasper is the only starter graduating for the Bulldogs, who placed fifth in the Blossom Valley Athletic League Finals tournament. The team will likely move up to the ‘A’-league Mount Hamilton Division.

The Sobrato boys squad, which also placed fifth at BVALs, produced two league selections. Senior 2-meter Marc Barats and sophomore goalie Patrick Read were first- and second-team all-Mount Hamilton, respectively.
