Gilroy and Morgan Hill Unified school districts got their final piece of the $1.25 billion block grant from the state today, Tuesday, as State Superintendent Tom Torlakson announced the second-half release of funds to support their move to the Common Core academic standards.

College-bound high school students can take the ACT college admission exam on Dec. 9, 2006, the next national test date. The deadline for postmark or online registration is Nov. 3. The late registration deadline is Nov. 16 (an additional $19 fee is required for late registration). Students can get registration materials from their high school counselor or they can register online on ACT's student Web site www.actstudent.org.

Out of 69,000 public schools examined across the nation, both Morgan Hill Unified School District and the Gilroy Unified School District were one of hundreds found to have high concentrations of suspicious test scores that indicate cheating, according to the results of a controversial study conducted and recently published by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC).
