Helping the Troops
Students at Barrett Elementary School wanted a project that would allow them to reach out and help others during the "giving season." The school's student council members decided a great way to give would be to show support for U.S. troops oversees. Students collected goodies - including lots of candy - to ship to a battalion in Iraq. The care packages were assembled last week and shipped out, hopefully reaching the troops by the holidays.
MHUSD teachers prep for curriculum overhaul
When the Morgan Hill Unified School District offered training for its teachers on the new Common Core State Standards, 34-year veteran instructor Lourdes Robledo signed up right away to learn the new set of academic guidelines created by select teachers, parents and community leaders across the country.

The Paradise Valley Home and School Association, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, purchased and sold 1,780 poinsettia plants from La Esquina at 152 in Watsonville, raising $9,500 to help fund the Mission Springs Science Camp adventure.
