A rude awakening

A man and a woman were asleep in a trailer at 7100 block of Croy Road in Morgan Hill when they heard a knock at their door, 8:30 p.m. Nov. 14. The man answered the door to find his neighbor and an unknown man. The neighbor wanted to talk to the man about a prior assault, but the man did not want to talk about it.

The neighbor and his friend walked a few steps away, but then turned and the neighbor struck the trailer owner with a large hammer several times in the left forearm and nose.

Both suspects are at large. The neighbor is described as a 40-year-old white man, about 5-foot-9-inches, 150 pounds, with brown hair and eyes. The other suspect is described as a white man about 6 feet tall, 250 pounds with brown hair and glasses.

Downtown association hosts visit with Santa

Santa Claus is stopping by the Granada Theater tonight for the first of eight visits to the city over the next three weekends, according to the Morgan Hill Downtown Association.

“The Morgan Hill Downtown Association and representatives for Mr. Claus have worked tirelessly to make these visits possible,” said Theresa Kiernan, executive director of the association. “Santa has told us through his representatives that the children of Morgan Hill have been especially good so as a reward he wants to come and visit with them.”

The visits will take place inside the Granada’s covered alcove and the theater will be one of the Toys for Tots collection spot during the visits. Residents are encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy to donate for the program.

There will also be a surprise during the visits.

“I am also told that Santa has something magical in the works,” Kiernan said, coyly adding she has “snow’ idea” what it was.

Santa is scheduled to be at the Granada Theater, 17440 Monterey Road, 7-9 p.m. tonight. He will also visit 1-3 p.m. Sunday. The following two weekends he will visiting 7-9 p.m. on Fridays, 3-6 p.m. on Saturdays and 1-3 p.m. on Sundays.

Public Access TV looking for board members

The nonprofit parent of the Morgan Hill’s public access TV station and the Poppy Jasper Film Festival is looking for local business people interested in serving as board members.

The board membership of the Media Access Coalition of Central California has dropped this past year as some members moved out of the area, according to a news release.

“The MACCC is negotiating with the city to continue providing locally based productions, programs of community interest and educational programs,” according to the release.

The MACCC, which formed in 1997, took over the Morgan Hill Access Television station in 1999 from the County on Aging. In 2008 the board will revisit its five-year goals and continue seeking studio space after being rejected by the city for low cost office space at the Friendly Inn, according to the release.

The board meets quarterly at its office inside Booksmart, 80 E. 2nd St. The next two board meetings are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on December 6 and January 10. The meetings are open to the public.

To inquire about board openings or other business, e-mail MACCC at in**@**at.tv or call 408-782-8086.

Council postpones BMR

pricing decision

MORGAN HILL

The Morgan Hill City Council on Wednesday put off discussion and vote on the proposed interim $50,000 increase on the below-market-rate housing prices.

Richard Oliver of Morgan Hill-based developer Dividend Homes asked for the increase in June to help close the difference between the increasing price of building a BMR house and its capped sale price. The council postponed the request several times, directing its staff to look into the matter closely.

The council was set to discuss and vote on the request at its regular meeting Wednesday night, but Oliver requested a one-week extension due to a family emergency, which the council granted.
