Year of the Feral Cat
Santa Clara County Supervisors will declare 2006 as “Year of the Feral Cat.” The proclamation is an attempt to bring attention to the county’s Trap-Neuter-Return program, which allows people to drop feral cats at various shelters and animals facilities to be spayed and neutered before they’re returned to the wild. There are an estimated 100,00 stray cats in the county. The goals of the program are to stop breeding, end the killing of healthy animals and reduce complaints and costs associated with feral cats.
Pombo Looking for Student Artists
U.S. Representative Richard Pombo, R-Tracy, has invited high school students in his district to participate in the 2006 Congressional Art Competition, “An Artistic Discovery.”
“This competition gives our young artists an opportunity to showcase their work in the U.S. Capitol,” Pombo said. “I encourage students to participate in this unique opportunity.”
The competition provides artists the opportunity to demonstrate their talents and display artwork at the exhibit located in the Cannon Tunnel of the U.S. Capitol. Since 1982, hundreds of thousands of high school students have participated in the competition.
All entries for the contest must be submitted at one of Congressman Pombo’s district offices by Friday, May 12. Find requirements online at: www.house.gov/ pombo/students/students.htm.
