Corde Valle Under New Management

The Corde Valle golf club and resort in San Martin has joined the Rosewood Resort family. Rosewood, which also operates hotels and event centers in New York, Texas, New Mexico and Saudi Arabia, took over operations at Corde Valle earlier this year.

Resort general manager Joe Root said visitors would see little difference at Corde Valle, which boasts golf links, 45 rooms and suites for overnight guests and meeting facilities.

“Rosewood is dedicated to maintaining the same quality of experience,” said Root, who will leave Corde Valle at the end of the year for a gig in Hawaii. “In terms of overall experience, I think Rosewood Resorts is one of the best luxury operations in the world.”

PCAG Special Meeting

The Perchlorate Community Advisory Group will hold a special meeting Thursday, March 30, from 7pm to 9pm, at the Lions Club Hall on Murphy Avenue, in San Martin.

Items to be discussed at the special meeting include the end of some bottled water deliveries in San Martin, perchlorate contamination in Morgan Hill, and the possible growth of the perchlorate plume that extends east of Gilroy.

The group, known as PCAG, was formed in 2003 to help the South County community cope with the perchlorate pollution, which was caused by the Olin Corp.’s former road-flare factory in Morgan Hill. PCAG meets monthly to discuss progress in cleaning the plume and potential health hazards, and to help guide state and local water policy. Community attendance is encouraged.

Alleged shoplifing linked to drugs

A weekend arrest for shoplifiting at the Safeway grocery store in the Tennant Station shopping center led to multiple charges for a Morgan Hill man.

Ricky Cordova, 23, was allegedly trying to steal a bottle of vodka Saturday afternoon when store security questioned him. As they searched him, police said, they found a knife on Cordova. Morgan Hill Police took him into custody and found a glass pipe and stolen credit cards on him.

Cordova was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of stolen property and petty theft.

Later that afternoon, police were once again called to the store for two other males detained for shoplifting. Rick Alexander, 46, and Raymond Montoya, 45, of Morgan Hill, were cited and released for allegedly shoplifting. Police say Alexander was also in possession of two hypodermic needles and suspected of being under the influence of heroin.

“This is where you see the tie-in between drugs and other crimes,” Morgan Hill Police Department Cmdr. Terrie Booten said. “As we see some of our property crimes rise, we know that many of them are related in some way to drugs.”
