“Red Phone, I see the city has a new LED sign in front of the Community and Cultural Center at the corner of Monterey Road and Dunne Avenue. What are the rules for getting an announcement?”
Red Phone: Dear Light it Up, Red Phone contacted Maureen Drewniany, the city’s recreation supervisor, who said she was anticipating questions about the city’s new digital display sign as she works through the details. For now, all community events, programs and services held at our city facilities (or put on by the city) have the opportunity to have event information displayed on the CCC digital display board at no additional cost, she said. “Beginning May 1, we will open this up to all nonprofits who benefit the Morgan Hill Community, providing the opportunity for information about their community events not held at city facilities to be displayed on the board for a minimal fee that is significantly less than the cost of a banner.”
As far as submitting information, the details are being finalized, but essentially event information will need to be provided in writing by hard copy or by e-mail to Drewniany or Debbie Lee-Lazzarino at the Community and Cultural Center, Drewniany added. Event information will be displayed beginning two weeks before an event.
She called the new sign a positive new resource for the community.
“This really opens up the opportunity for event information to be shared with the community,” she said.
Call animal control for problems
“Hello Red Phone, If animal control is cut due to the budget deficit, who’s going to be responsible for ticketing careless owners of vicious animals, excessive barking complaints, stray animals, etc.? I have a problem with a barking dog and I’m thinking about contacting animal control, but if it’s about to be canceled, should I contact them or talk to the police?”
Red Phone: Dear Barked Out, no decisions have been made regarding the city’s budget, and none will be until next month. If you have a problem with an animal, you should contact Daniel Pina, animal control officer at 776-7324 or da******@***********ca.gov. Now, should the city council decide to cut animal control services, a decision would have to be made as to how to handle those calls. In early April, Capt. Joe Sampson said the department’s budgeting and command staff had not yet considered how police would deal with animal control calls without a full-time officer. He said when Pina is not on duty now, patrol officers do a “basic level” of service and response. And, it should be noted that the city is in talks with the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department to contract out police services. Should that happen, animal control services would be handled by the sheriff’s department.
Hope that answers your question, good caller.
