City Receives Affordable Housing Grant
Morgan Hill has been awarded an $800,00 grant to build affordable housing. The grant, from the California Housing Finance Agency, will be used to build about 160 rental and ownership units. The houses will be built as part of the city’s redevelopment program. Rental units will be available to households with an annual income ranging from $22,300 to $63,300. Households with incomes between $59,400 and $105,500 will be eligible to buy houses.
Pombo and Feinstein Partner Against Perchlorate
U.S. Representative Richard Pombo, R-Tracy, and U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., last week introduced legislation in both the Senate and the House of Representatives to authorize $50 million for perchlorate contamination cleanup in California.
The legislation would provide $50 million in grants for cleanup and remediation of perchlorate in water sources in San Martin, Sacramento County and the San Gabriel Valley.
Some of the money will be earmarked for research into technology to clean perchlorate from the groundwater. Grants must be matched by local agencies.
“There’s no question many communities in California face water supplies contaminated with perchlorate,” Pombo said. “I’m pleased to be working with Senator Feinstein on a complementary bill that will get the job done. It is extremely important that the residents of California have access to safe, clean drinking water.”
