A well-earned victory by the Live Oak High rugby team over visiting Los Altos lifted the Acorns to a 2-2 overall record this season.

Led by sophomore center Victor Kalata and senior scrumhalf Eduardo Arias, the Acorns rallied past Los Altos 13-10 on Friday evening at Paradise Park in Morgan Hill.

Although dominating play in terms of possession and field position, the Acorn ruggers found themselves trailing 5-3 at halftime on a late try by Los Altos’ scrumhalf.

Live Oak’s points came off of a penalty kick from junior fullback Dustin Muhn penalty kick.

As the second half began, Live Oak continued to dominate and penetrated the Los Altos try zone midway through the second half.

Kalata touched down for a 5-point try from a nicely executed short lineout play.

A few minutes later, Arias finished the Live Oak scoring by touching down for a try in the right corner.

Both conversions failed.

Los Altos scored its final points just as the referee signaled the end of play.

This Friday, Live Oak travels to Aptos High to continue Skyhawk Conference play.

Live Oak has three remaining conference matchups, including its final regular season home match of the year against Peninsula Green on Friday, March 25.

The Skyhawk Conference playoffs begin in April.
