After an inspiring victory on Friday to advance to the Sectional Tournament champion-ship series, the Morgan Hill Mustang A all-star team couldn’t quite pull off the upset on Saturday, dropping a 12-2 decision to Blossom Valley No. 1 on Saturday at Britton.
Despite the loss, the Mustang A all-stars took second place in the section.
Meanwhile, Blossom Valley No. 1 will be the lone section represent-ative in the regional tourney as only one team advances.
The local Mustang A team gave it up in the top of the first against BV, surrendering eight runs, including a two-run home run.
It was the second loss in a week to BV for MH, which had already lost to the section champs on Wednesday.
The local Mustang A all-stars advanced to the BV rematch by downing Santa Clara 7-2 on Friday night.
MH starting pitcher Andy Muller earned the win, while Nelson Pyle and Ryan Mason were solid in relief.
MH’s top hitters included: Jakob Conlan, who was 2-for-3 with an RBI; Steven Villarreal, who was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored; Nelson Pyle, 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs; Michael LemMon, 2-for-2 with an RBI; Joey Persons, 3-for-3 with three doubles, an RBI and two runs scored.
The victory avenged a loss to Santa Clara in a Memorial Day tourney earlier this year.
