On Wednesday the City Council will find out if an MRI facility is willing to come to DePaul Health Center, located in the old Saint Louise Hospital medical office building at Cochrane Road and Highway 101.

The council in September gave O’Connor Hospital officials, who are in charge of rejuvenating medical services at the center, until Dec. 1 to make significant progress in finding a Magnetic Resonance Imaging center or the honor could go to a professional center that Venture Corp. is building off Butterfield Boulevard.

Both centers want an MRI because it is a moneymaker that subsidizes less lucrative services. But, because there is probably only enough business in Morgan Hill for one facility, the council has had to negotiate between the two requests.

Rob Eves, CEO of Venture Corp., who developed the Morgan Hill Business Ranch, had already given up the idea of an outpatient surgical center with his planned doctor-owned medical offices and was reluctant to give up the MRI as well.

Morgan Hill lost most medical services when the hospital closed in December 1999 and moved to Gilroy; many physicians left with the hospital.

At 7pm Wednesday newly elected councilman Mark Grzan will be sworn in, along with re-elected Councilman Larry Carr, City Treasurer Mike Roorda and City Clerk Irma Torrez, followed by a reception before the actual meeting begins.
