Morgan Hill – The Morgan Hill Swim Club (MAKOS) will be hosting a “Happy Holiday MAKO Meet” for more than 800 competitive swimmers from 33 teams on December 10-11 at the Morgan Hill Aquatics Center.
The meet is the only local event during the month of December and give swimmers who have not qualified for the Junior Olympics or Senior Championships the chance to compete. Swimmers ages range from under eight to 18. There will be 100 events held over the weekend, split into four different age divisions (8-under, 10-under, 11-12, 13-18).
“Our meet director, Mike McCombs, did his usual excellent job of providing a great mix of events and relays that might not be found elsewhere,” said Morgan Hill Aquatics Center President, John Rick. “The working partnership between the MH aquatic center staff and the Morgan Hill Swim Club has allowed us to jointly develop a reputation for hosting fun meets with fast swims at an outstanding facility.”
Current USA and Pacific Swimming rules apply to the meet. Pacific Swimming sets its schedule about one year and advance and the zone meets are awarded through a lottery process. Generally, the Morgan Hill Swim Club is awarded one or two meets per year through the lottery, according to Rick, then they go out and bid one large regional level meet such as Far Westerns or USA Swimming Sectionals.
“It will go well from the operational side, we have hosted larger meets before and every time we and the center learn a little on how to do it even better,” said Rick. “The big unknown will be the weather.”
The meet begins at 9am on both Saturday and Sunday and admission is free to spectators.
