Erin Schulz

MORGAN HILL RESIDENT ERIN SCHULZ, a senior at MONTE VISTA CHRISTIAN SCHOOL in Watsonville, has received a BANK OF AMERICA ACHIEVEMENT AWARD in fine arts.

During the April 17 award ceremony, the eight fine arts candidates prepared a written statement on the importance of arts in public schools and discussed their statements before a panel of community leaders.

Candidates’ statements were evaluated on written expression, logic, focus, and creativity. During the group presentation, students were evaluated on cooperation, logical thinking, oral communication and originality.

This year, more than 15,000 students were nominated by their teachers for the competition. They were selected based on academic achievement, leadership and ability to balance academic and extra-curricular activities.

After a series of evaluations, the field of candidates was narrowed to 32 finalists in each of 10 regional events. Schulz was selected as one of eight fine arts finalists in the Silicon Valley division, and received a $500 award for her Honorable Mention Award at the luncheon.

“Erin is academically strong, as well as a talented singer and dancer,” said Tony Dehner, chair of the Fine and Performing Arts Department at Monte Vista Christian School. “She consistently excels in her Advanced Placement and Honors classes and she is an outstanding member of the award-winning Advanced Choir and The Master’s Voice Chamber Ensemble. We are pleased to see her recognized for her achievements.”
