Pop Warner football league gets underway with jamboree on
Sunday
Morgan Hill – Another season of Morgan Hill Raiders football is set to begin and all five divisions will take part in a jamboree on Sunday beginning at 8am at Britton Field.

The Mitey Mites kick off the early action and will be followed by the Junior Pee Wees at 10am, the Pee Wees at noon, the Junior Midgets at 2pm and the Midgets at 4pm.

Head coaches for this season are: Paul Deharo (Mighty Mite), Rick Dunham (Junior Pee Wee), Rich Martinez (Pee Wee), Chris Taylor (Junior Midget) and Steve Sorce (Midget).

Dunham’s Junior Pee Wee team is young, but the coach said the team is looking forward to the season.

“We’re a young team stepping up to Division I,” Dunham said. “We’re excited, the competition will be tough all year long but we’re ready.”

The Junior Pee Wees, who have been practicing since Aug. 1, had a scrimmage last week against Almaden and Coyote Creek and are looking forward to getting into the regular season.

“They’ve been going after it for a long time,” Dunham said. “Since Aug. 1 they’ve had one goal – to play football. All the kids love it, they’re ready to go.”

Dunham’s squad will be taking on Oak Grove and is looking forward to a good challenge and to start the season on a good note.

“Obviously we want to win,” Dunham said. “Oak Grove is a good program.”

There will be a round robin game in the Pee Wee division only, with Morgan Hil taking on both Mountain View and Cambrian.

The jamboree and the playoff games at the conclusion of the season serve as fundraisers for Peninsula Pop Warner Football and admission for the jamboree is $6 for ages 16 and older. The snack shack will be open to provide refreshments.
